This study introduces La-CTP, a novel routing protocol for energy-harvesting wireless sensor networks (EH-WSN). It effectively manages routing loops caused by nodes recharging, ensuring continuous network operation.
Area of Science:
- Computer Science
- Networking
- Wireless Sensor Networks
Background:
- Energy-harvesting wireless sensor networks (EH-WSN) offer perpetual sensing but face routing challenges.
- Nodes recharging energy temporarily halt operations, causing routing disruptions and loops.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose an effective and practical loop-aware routing protocol for EH-WSNs.
- To address the routing loop problem in connectivity-intermittent EH-WSN.
Main Methods:
- Developed La-CTP, a loop-aware routing protocol based on the Collection Tree Protocol (CTP).
- Introduced a new parent updating metric and a proactive, adaptive beaconing scheme.
- Evaluated La-CTP using a 100-node testbed.
Main Results:
- La-CTP effectively suppresses the occurrence of routing loops.
- The protocol can unlock unavoidable loops, ensuring network connectivity.
- Experimental results demonstrate the efficacy and efficiency of La-CTP.
Conclusions:
- La-CTP provides an effective solution for loop handling in EH-WSNs.
- The proposed protocol enhances the reliability of energy-harvesting wireless sensor networks.
