[Repeat operations on the biliary tract in a district hospital]

An experience with 79 reoperations in 68 patients who had been subjected to operations for acute and chronic cholecystitis enabled the author to conclude that retained calculi in bile ducts were the main cause of reoperations. The amount of repeated surgical interventions and postoperative lethality can be decreased by a complex intraoperative examination of bile ducts during the first operation and by higher qualification of the surgeons.
