    Summary

    Fluorescein flowmetry (FF) measured nasal mucosal blood flow in patients. Nasal decongestion via nose drops significantly reduced blood flow index, comparable to previous animal studies.

    Background:

    • Assessing nasal mucosal blood flow is crucial for understanding nasal physiology and pathology.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the utility of fluorescein flowmetry (FF) for measuring relative blood flow in human nasal mucosa.
    • To investigate the effect of nasal decongestion on nasal mucosal blood flow.

    • Relative blood flow in the nasal mucosa of sixteen patients was measured using fluorescein flowmetry (FF) with an endoscope technique.
    • Duplicate measurements were performed, and the effect of nasal decongestion using nose drops was assessed.

    • Duplicate measurements showed slightly lower values on the second attempt, potentially due to background fluorescence.
    • Administration of nose drops reduced the blood flow index to one-third of the original value.
