    Background:

    • Rett syndrome is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder.
    • Neuroendocrine dysfunctions are observed in Rett syndrome.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate plasma levels of beta-endorphin (beta-EP), beta-lipotropin (beta-LPH), and prolactin (PRL) in girls with Rett syndrome.
    • To assess the neuroendocrine response to metoclopramide stimulation in Rett syndrome patients.
    • To explore potential dopaminergic system derangements in Rett syndrome.

    Main Methods:

    • Blood samples were collected from 5 girls with Rett syndrome and controls.
    • Plasma beta-EP, beta-LPH, and PRL levels were measured.
    • Metoclopramide (10 mg i.v.) was administered to assess neuroendocrine responses.
