    Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) levels increase with high sodium intake and decrease with upright posture, confirming its role in regulating body fluid balance. This hormone responds appropriately to volume changes in humans.

    Background:

    • Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF) is a hormone involved in volume regulation.
    • It is released in response to increased atrial pressure, stimulating diuresis and natriuresis.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the stimuli triggering ANF release in humans.
    • To characterize the relationship between sodium intake, posture, and ANF levels.

    Main Methods:

    • Studied 14 normal subjects under varying dietary sodium conditions and postures (supine, upright).
    • Measured plasma ANF levels using radioimmunoassay.
    • Assessed urinary sodium excretion and plasma aldosterone and renin activity.
