Improving maternal and neonatal outcomes necessitates enhanced midwife training.

To identify emerging issues threatening the sustainability of a newly implemented competence-based midwifery curriculum in a sub-Saharan African country.
To explore the factors influencing the successful implementation and long-term viability of CBE in midwifery education.
To provide recommendations for enhancing the sustainability of curricular innovations in midwifery.
