  • To investigate the relationship between the inter-proximal distance of implants and adjacent teeth.
  • To determine if this distance impacts marginal bone loss on facing surfaces.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of 278 inter-proximal units in 180 patients.
  • Digitalized radiographs to measure marginal bone level and change over 5.8 years.
  • Assessed distance between implants and adjacent teeth/implants.

  • Mean marginal bone loss was approximately 0.4 mm at both implant and tooth surfaces.
  • Inter-proximal distance did not correlate with the amount of marginal bone loss.
