This study on Semantic Dementia (SD) found no direct link between semantic impairment and difficulties reading irregular words or in lexical decision tasks. Brain imaging suggests atrophy outside anterior temporal lobes may cause these reading issues.
Area of Science:
- Neuroscience
- Cognitive Psychology
- Linguistics
Background:
- Semantic Dementia (SD) often causes surface dyslexia and lexical decision deficits.
- Connectionist models propose semantic system deterioration underlies these SD-related reading impairments.
- The Dual Route Cascaded (DRC) model does not predict this link.

Prediction Intervals
However, the point estimate is most likely not the exact value of the population parameter, but close to it. After calculating point estimates, we construct interval estimates, called confidence intervals or prediction intervals. This prediction interval comprises a range of values unlike the point estimate and is a better predictor of the observed sample value, y.
