Abstract:
Purpose. To present a rare complication after penetrating keratoplasty. Methods. The review presents the main types of retrocorneal membranes. The incidence, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment are shown for all of them. Conclusions. The evaluation and management of a membrane behind the posterior surface of the cornea is a special challenge for ophthalmologists. The clearer understanding of the pathogenesis of the different types of retrocorneal membranes may allow a more specific and efficient treatment.
