Background:

  • A 38-year-old male presented with chronic low back pain, diagnosed as L4-L5 disc prolapse via MRI.
  • Initial treatment included tolperisone, aceclofenac, and paracetamol.

Observation:

  • Following the addition of deflazacort to the treatment regimen, the patient developed sharply marginated, infiltrative, erythematous skin eruptions accompanied by itching.
  • These symptoms appeared within two days of initiating deflazacort therapy.

Findings:

  • The skin condition was diagnosed as a deflazacort-induced acneiform eruption.
  • Treatment with doxycycline for two months resulted in the complete resolution of the acneiform eruptions.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a potential adverse dermatological reaction to deflazacort, a corticosteroid.
  • Early recognition and appropriate antibiotic treatment (e.g., doxycycline) can effectively manage deflazacort-induced acneiform eruptions.
