    Summary

    Atriopeptin III (APIII) administration in rats caused immediate decreases in cardiac output and mean arterial pressure. However, these effects were not due to negative myocardial inotropic actions, indicating other mechanisms are involved.

    Background:

    • Atriopeptin III (APIII) is a natriuretic peptide with known cardiovascular effects.
    • Understanding the precise hemodynamic impact of APIII is crucial for its therapeutic potential.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the acute effects of atriopeptin III on systemic hemodynamics in anesthetized rats.
    • To determine if the observed hemodynamic changes are mediated by a negative inotropic effect on the heart.

    Main Methods:

    • Intravenous injection of atriopeptin III (10 micrograms/kg) in 12 anesthetized rats.
