Leukotriene receptor antagonists do not improve lung function decline in COPD: a meta-analysis

Leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRA) do not improve lung function in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This meta-analysis found no significant benefit from LTRA treatment, regardless of duration, highlighting the need for further research.

- Subgroup analysis indicated no benefit from either short-term (<1 year) or long-term (≥1 year) LTRA exposure on lung function decline.
- Statistical significance was not achieved for any of the primary outcomes evaluated.
Conclusions:
- This meta-analysis concludes that neither short-term nor long-term exposure to LTRA improves lung function decline in COPD patients.
- The findings suggest that LTRA may not be an effective treatment for improving lung function in COPD.
- Large-scale randomized controlled trials are urgently needed to definitively establish the role of LTRA in COPD management.
