Primary Healthcare Services

2.2K
Primary care promotes wellness and prevents disease. This care includes health promotion, education, protection (such as immunizations), early disease screening, and environmental considerations. Settings providing this type of healthcare include physician offices, public health clinics, school nursing, and community health nursing.

Preventive Healthcare Services

2.2K
Preventive healthcare services keep people healthy via frequent check-ups, screening, and counseling. They primarily aid in disease prevention rather than treating an acute or chronic illness. Preventive treatment also keeps individuals productive and energetic, allowing them to work well into their retirement years. Examples of preventive care services include:

Continuing Care01:25

Continuing Care

2.0K
Continuing care describes the variety of health, personal, and social services provided over a prolonged period. The need for continuing care is increasing because people are living longer. Many people do not have families or others to care for them. Continuing care is mainly for patients who are disabled, functionally dependent, or suffering from a terminal disease. It is available within institutional settings or in homes. Examples include nursing centers or facilities, assisted living,...

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Healthcare Management
  • Process Improvement

Background:

  • Effective eye care in government hospitals faces challenges balancing demand and resources.
  • Improving efficiency in procedures like Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To enhance the efficiency of the Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy treatment protocol.
  • To ensure a patient-oriented, safe, and competent clinical care process.

Main Methods:

  • A lean process improvement methodology was used to streamline the Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy protocol.
  • Evaluated 206 patient visits, comparing a lean-oriented protocol (158 visits) with a conventional protocol (48 visits).

Main Results:

  • The lean protocol reduced total reception time per patient (55:36 min to 44:40 min, p=0.040).
  • Increased treatment capacity: patients treated per hour rose from 4.7 to 16.3 (p<0.001), eyes treated per hour from 5.5 to 18.0 (p<0.001).
  • Physician time reduced significantly for unilateral (8:19 min to 3:01 min, p<0.001) and bilateral procedures (8:45 min to 4:40 min, p<0.006).
  • Patient satisfaction improved slightly (17.3 to 17.8, p=0.001).

Conclusions:

  • The lean approach effectively improved the Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy treatment protocol.
  • Substantial reductions in lead times were achieved without compromising patient satisfaction.
