Four cases of GABAB receptor encephalitis

Autoimmune encephalitis targeting gamma-aminobutyric acid type B receptors (GABABR) can occur without epilepsy and may spontaneously improve. Early cancer screening is vital, even with symptom remission, as GABABR encephalitis can precede small cell lung cancer.

- Spontaneous recovery does not exclude underlying malignancy, necessitating ongoing cancer surveillance.
- The potential for encephalitis to precede SCLC by over a year underscores the importance of thorough oncological workup.
