Transillumination and HDR Imaging for Proximal Caries Detection

This study validated near-infrared transillumination (NIRT) for detecting proximal caries, enhancing it with high-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI). While NIRT-HDRI showed improved visualization, it did not significantly enhance diagnostic accuracy compared to standard NIRT.

- Differentiating demineralized enamel from dentin lesions remains a challenge for NIRT, irrespective of HDRI.
