Background:

Rheumatoid nodules are typically associated with rheumatoid arthritis.
Distinguishing rheumatoid nodules from other subcutaneous lesions is clinically important.

Observation:

Nine cases of subcutaneous rheumatoid nodules were identified without concurrent rheumatoid arthritis.
Four cases presented nodules in adolescence or adulthood, a rare occurrence.
Synovitis was transient in one patient, with no other rheumatoid arthritis features.

Findings:

Histological examination and clinical presentation supported rheumatoid nodules diagnosis.
Rheumatoid factor tests were negative in all cases.
Immunofluorescence showed IgG and IgM deposition in one biopsy, despite negative serology.
