Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct a comprehensive literature review on the accuracy of ultrasound-guided injections.
  • To compare the efficacy of ultrasound-guided injections with landmark-guided injections across various anatomical locations.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic review of existing studies comparing ultrasound-guided and landmark-guided injections.
  • Analysis of data based on anatomical region (upper extremity, lower extremity, hip).

Main Results:

  • Ultrasound guidance demonstrated superior accuracy and efficacy for injections in the upper extremity (glenohumeral joint, subacromial space, biceps tendon sheath, hand/wrist joints) and lower extremity (knee, ankle, foot).
  • Efficacy was not definitively improved for acromioclavicular or elbow joint injections.
