Careful examination and documentation of eyelid and periorbital findings are required in order to identify additional pathologies to dermatochalasis and plan the surgical approach accordingly. There is a trend in the literature and in expert opinions away from large tissue resection and towards volume preserving and volume reconstructing surgical techniques. Correct placement of the skin fold as well as maintaining lid symmetry are crucial points in order to achieve a natural appearance and patient satisfaction.

Careful and realistic patient information, state of the art surgery including cautious tissue resection and correct symmetrical formation of the skin fold as well as postoperative assistance and availability increase the likelihood of satisfied patients after blepharoplasty.
