Summary

Background:

  • Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide (PACAP) is a neuropeptide involved in nociception and primary headaches.
  • PACAP is localized in the trigeminal ganglion (TG), sphenopalatine (SPG), otic ganglia (OTG), and trigeminocervical complex.
  • PACAP co-exists with VIP, NOS, and CGRP in specific neuronal populations within the trigeminal system.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review the role of PACAP in nociception and primary headaches.
  • To explore the localization and function of PACAP and its receptors in the trigeminovascular system.
  • To evaluate PACAP as a potential therapeutic target for migraine.
