Insights
Clinical practice guidelines for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) were developed in Korea. These guidelines offer evidence-based recommendations for managing this severe cerebrovascular disease, aiming to improve patient outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Neurosurgery
- Neurology
- Cerebrovascular Diseases
Background:
- Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) remains a significant cause of death and disability despite treatment advances.
- Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) are crucial for standardizing management and improving outcomes for aSAH.
- International CPGs exist, but localized guidelines are needed to address specific healthcare contexts.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present the Korean version of the CPGs for aSAH, developed by the Korean Society of Cerebrovascular Surgeons.
- To provide evidence-based recommendations for the comprehensive management of aSAH.
- To serve as a reference for clinicians and researchers involved in aSAH care.
Main Methods:
- Systematic review of published literature up to December 2015.
- Inclusion of major international CPGs for aSAH.
- Evidence levels and recommendation grades determined by multidisciplinary committees.
Main Results:
- The Korean CPGs cover risk factors, diagnosis, initial management, rebleeding prevention, delayed cerebral ischemia, hydrocephalus, complications, and rehabilitation.
- Recommendations are based on synthesized evidence and expert consensus.
- The guidelines acknowledge limitations due to incomplete evidence and practice variations.
Conclusions:
- The Korean CPGs for aSAH provide a valuable, evidence-based reference for clinical practice and research.
- These guidelines aim to optimize the management of aSAH patients in the Korean healthcare setting.
- Continuous updates are anticipated as new evidence emerges.
Abstract:
Despite advancements in treating ruptured cerebral aneurysms, an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is still a grave cerebrovascular disease associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. Based on the literature published to date, worldwide academic and governmental committees have developed clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to propose standards for disease management in order to achieve the best treatment outcomes for aSAHs. In 2013, the Korean Society of Cerebrovascular Surgeons issued a Korean version of the CPGs for aSAHs. The group researched all articles and major foreign CPGs published in English until December 2015 using several search engines. Based on these articles, levels of evidence and grades of recommendations were determined by our society as well as by other related Quality Control Committees from neurointervention, neurology and rehabilitation medicine. The Korean version of the CPGs for aSAHs includes risk factors, diagnosis, initial management, medical and surgical management to prevent rebleeding, management of delayed cerebral ischemia and vasospasm, treatment of hydrocephalus, treatment of medical complications and early rehabilitation. The CPGs are not the absolute standard but are the present reference as the evidence is still incomplete, each environment of clinical practice is different, and there is a high probability of variation in the current recommendations. The CPGs will be useful in the fields of clinical practice and research.

Guidelines for Writing Outcome
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...

Guidelines for Nursing Documentation II
Timely documentation is crucial to ensure continuity of care for patients. Any delays in recording or reporting medical information can result in medical errors and even adverse patient outcomes. From medication administration to diagnostic test results, every detail must be accurately and promptly documented to provide the best possible care for patients.
