Low vitamin D levels in preterm infants and their mothers are linked to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Maternal vitamin D supplementation may help prevent NEC in premature infants.

- Reduced serum 25-OHD levels in preterm infants and their mothers are associated with an increased risk of NEC.
- Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy may be a crucial strategy for NEC prevention in premature neonates.
