    Summary

Congenital coagulation factor VII deficiency can cause joint issues in knees and elbows. These radiographic findings are similar to hemophilia but are milder and appear later in life.

    Area of Science:

    • Radiology
    • Hematology
    • Genetics

    Background:

    • Congenital coagulation factor VII deficiency is a rare bleeding disorder.
    • Joint manifestations in bleeding disorders often resemble hemophilia.

    Observation:

    • Plain film radiography of knees and elbows was performed in two patients.
    • Patients presented with distinct radiographic features affecting the joints.

    Findings:

    • The observed radiographic findings in factor VII deficiency mimic those of hemophilia.
    • Joint manifestations in this cohort were characterized by milder symptoms and later onset.
    • Unlike hemophilia, these joint issues were observed in both male and female patients.

    Implications:

    Related Experiment Videos

  • These findings highlight the importance of considering factor VII deficiency in the differential diagnosis of joint bleeding.
  • Understanding these milder, later-onset joint manifestations can aid in earlier diagnosis and management.
  • This expands the clinical spectrum of coagulation factor deficiencies and their orthopedic sequelae.
