Post-traumatic Stress Disorder01:27

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

590
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition that arises following exposure to traumatic events such as natural disasters, forced displacement, or severe accidents. It significantly impairs individuals' ability to cope with daily activities and disrupts their emotional and psychological equilibrium.
Symptoms and Behavioral Manifestations
A spectrum of distressing symptoms characterizes PTSD. Recurrent flashbacks, where individuals involuntarily relive traumatic events,...

Traumatic Memory

593
Emotionally traumatic events often lead to memories that are exceptionally vivid and enduring, sometimes persisting with remarkable clarity throughout an individual's life. A classic example of this phenomenon is a person who survives a car accident. Even years later, they may recall every detail of the event with startling accuracy — the screeching of the tires, the jarring impact, and the acrid smell of burning rubber. Such vividness contrasts sharply with how an individual...

Post-translational Translocation of Proteins to the RER01:27

Post-translational Translocation of Proteins to the RER

7.8K
A sizable fraction of proteins destined for ER are first synthesized in the cell cytosol and then transported across the ER membrane–a process called post-translational translocation. Similar to cotranslationally translocated proteins, these proteins also use the Sec translocon complex to enter the ER lumen.
Targeting proteins to the ER
Hsp40 and Hsp70 chaperone molecules bind the translated proteins in the cytosol to prevent their folding. The chaperone binding helps to keep the signal...

Cardiomyopathy VII: Pre and Post Operative Nursing Management

372
Patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction who remain symptomatic despite optimal medical therapy may undergo a septal myectomy (Morrow procedure). This procedure involves excising a portion of the hypertrophied septum below the aortic valve using a heart-lung machine to improve blood flow through the LVOT. Effective preoperative and postoperative nursing management ensures successful patient outcomes, minimizes complications, and...

Summary

A motorcyclist with pelvic trauma and bladder rupture developed a thigh fistula. Conservative treatment with bladder drainage successfully healed the fistula, demonstrating effective management of this rare complication.

Area of Science:

  • Trauma Surgery
  • Urology
  • Orthopedic Surgery

Background:

  • Pelvic trauma can result in complex injuries, including bladder rupture.
  • Symphyseal disjunction is a severe pelvic injury often associated with significant trauma.

Observation:

  • A 43-year-old motorcyclist sustained pelvic trauma with symphyseal disjunction.
  • Developed a thigh fistula with urinary outflow and skin maceration.
  • Radiological imaging confirmed subperitoneal bladder rupture and fistulous track.

Findings:

  • Conservative management involving prolonged bladder drainage and local wound care was initiated.
  • The patient experienced complete resolution of the fistula without surgical intervention.
  • Standard laboratory tests remained within normal limits throughout treatment.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the potential for conservative management in specific cases of bladder rupture with associated fistulas.
  • Effective management of pelvic trauma complications can be achieved through tailored, non-operative approaches.
  • Highlights the importance of advanced imaging in diagnosing complex genitourinary trauma.
