  • These disorders encompass extensive symptoms following interpersonal Type II trauma.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine scientific knowledge and practical experiences regarding CPTSD, DESNOS, and DTD in individuals up to 18 years old.
  • To assess the perceived relevance and utility of these diagnostic categories in clinical practice.

Main Methods:

  • A systematic review of 1,070 publications was conducted.
  • A nationwide online survey of 374 child and adolescent psychotherapists and psychiatrists in Germany was performed.

Main Results:

  • Included studies (13) were primarily from the USA, with limited empirical data and methodological limitations.
  • 100% of surveyed therapists recognized CPTSD in patients, and 99% recognized DTD.
  • Two-thirds of therapists found CPTSD and DTD diagnostic options very often or often helpful.

Conclusions:

  • Empirical data on complex trauma-related disorders in children and adolescents is insufficient and methodologically limited.
  • Despite data limitations, practitioners perceive CPTSD and DTD as highly relevant and beneficial for therapeutic work.
