Giant cell arteritis (GCA) patients do not have higher all-cause mortality rates. However, individuals with GCA face an increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease (CVD).

- All-cause SMR was not significantly increased in GCA patients (SMR 1.081).
- Mortality due to cardiovascular disease (CVD) was significantly increased (SMR 1.312), while cancer mortality was not (SMR 0.833).
Conclusions:
- GCA patients do not exhibit elevated all-cause mortality, irrespective of sex or region.
- There is a significant increase in mortality risk from cardiovascular disease in GCA patients.
- No increased mortality risk was observed for cancer-related deaths in GCA patients.
