Abstract:
The reaction of [{η5-Cp'''Co}2{μ,η4:4-toluene}] with yellow arsenic yields the arsenic-rich As ligand complexes [{Cp'''Co(μ,η2:2-As2)}2] (1), [(Cp'''Co)4(μ4,η4:4:2:2:1:1-As10)] (2) and [(Cp'''Co)3(μ3,η4:4:2:1-As12)] (3), which were comprehensively characterized. The molecular structure of 1 show a triple-decker complex with two As2 units forming the middle-deck; compound 2 contains an all-arsenic As10 analogue of dihydrofulvalene in the molecular structure. The As12 ligand in 3 represents the largest As ligand complex reported so far.

Ligand Binding and Linkage
Metal-Ligand Bonds
In these complexes, transition metals form coordinate covalent bonds, a kind of Lewis acid-base interaction in which both of the electrons in the bond are contributed by a donor (Lewis base) to an electron acceptor (Lewis acid). The Lewis acid in...
Ligand Binding Sites
Protein-ligand interactions are quite specific; even though numerous potential ligands surround a cellular protein at any given time, only a particular ligand can bind to that protein. Moreover, a ligand binds only to a dedicated area on the surface of the protein, known as the...

Dehydration Synthesis
Dehydration synthesis (also called a condensation reaction) is the chemical process in which two molecules covalently link together to form a new molecule, along with the release of a water molecule. Many physiologically important compounds form by dehydration synthesis reactions, such as complex carbohydrates, proteins, DNA, and RNA.
Synthesis of carbohydrates
Sugar molecules are covalently linked together by dehydration synthesis. During the reaction, the hydroxyl (-OH) group from...
