Summary

Ir genes impact antibody production. This study shows Ir genes do not affect B-memory-cell generation, but block their maturation into antibody-producing cells in CBA mice.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate if Ir genes influence B-memory-cell generation.
  • To determine the cause of the IgG response defect in CBA mice.

  • CBA mice were primed with a DNP-TGAL conjugate and ovalbumin (OVA).
  • Animals were challenged with DNP-OVA conjugate to assess IgG-producing B cells.

  • Carrier-specific MHC-restricted T helpers are not essential for B-memory-cell generation.
  • The data suggest a defect in memory cell maturation in CBA mice.

Conclusions:

  • Ir genes do not impede B-memory-cell generation.
