A penile lesion initially resembling Mondor disease was diagnosed as secondary syphilis. This case highlights the importance of considering syphilis in the differential diagnosis of penile cord-like injuries.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Dermatology
- Infectious Diseases
Background:
- Mondor penile disease and penile sclerosing lymphangitis present as penile cord-like lesions.
- Differential diagnosis for such lesions can be challenging.
Observation:
- A patient presented with a penile lesion clinically mimicking Mondor disease or sclerosing lymphangitis.
- Doppler ultrasonography revealed a solid lesion without a vascular component.
- Immunohistochemistry was negative for treponema.
Findings:
- Histological and serological tests confirmed secondary syphilis.
- The lesion's presentation was atypical for common vascular or inflammatory penile conditions.
Implications:
- Syphilis should be included in the differential diagnosis for penile cord-like injuries.
- Accurate diagnosis is crucial for appropriate treatment and preventing complications of syphilis.
- This case underscores the varied clinical presentations of secondary syphilis.
