Background:

  • The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited EMS fellowships starting in 2013.
  • The first EMS In-Training Examination (EMSITE) was administered in 2016.
  • EMS fellowship education is becoming the primary pathway for board certification.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the current cohort of EMS fellows in ACGME-accredited programs.
  • To outline the educational opportunities available to these fellows.
  • To inform future needs in EMS fellowship education.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional survey was administered to EMS fellows.
  • The survey was conducted alongside the first EMSITE between April and June 2016.
  • A 14-question survey with multiple-choice and free-response items was used, with basic frequency statistics applied to the data.
