Sustainable Development01:43

Sustainable Development

15.2K
As the human population continues to grow and use resources, we must be mindful of our planet’s natural limits. Sustainable development provides a pathway to maintain and improve human life now while also ensuring that future generations will have the resources that they need. The long-term success of sustainability efforts rests on understanding the interplay between human actions and ecological systems.

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions01:03

Nursing Interventions I: Taxonomy of Nursing Interventions

3.9K
Nursing interventions are chosen as part of the planning process to achieve patient outcomes. Once nursing diagnoses are determined, the goals and outcomes are specified, then the nursing interventions are selected and individualized according to the patient's situation.
A nursing intervention is a treatment or action based on scientific concepts and knowledge from the nursing, behavioral, and physical sciences. Identifying and prioritizing nursing interventions based on the desired outcome...

Nursing Interventions II: Selecting and Classifying the Nursing Interventions

3.4K
Creating and executing a nursing diagnosis helps nurses plan care and guide patient, family, and community interventions. They are developed based on a patient's physical evaluation and support measuring the outcomes. It is not recommended to select random interventions throughout the planning process. Instead, consider the following six essential factors when choosing interventions:

Design Example: Sustainability in Concrete Building

426
As the construction industry moves towards more eco-friendly practices, concrete's adaptability and its ability to incorporate sustainable features make it a key material in the drive towards greener building solutions.
There are multiple approaches to achieve sustainability in a commercial concrete building. For instance, construct a concrete parking area under the building, utilizing pervious concrete paver blocks in open areas to facilitate rainwater collection through an underground...

Increasing Function01:18

Increasing Function

401
An increasing function exhibits a rise in output values as input values increase. This behavior is depicted graphically as a curve or line that slopes upward from left to right. Such a function satisfies the condition that if x1 < x2, then f(x1) < f(x2), indicating that the function values grow with increasing inputs. This concept is fundamental in understanding growth trends across various domains, such as population dynamics, financial investments, or resource consumption.The...

Summary

Playground redesigns with new equipment significantly boosted children's physical activity during school recess. These improvements in moderate to vigorous activity were sustained for at least one year, showing the effectiveness of environmental interventions.

Area of Science:

  • Child Health
  • Public Health Interventions
  • School-Based Health Promotion

Background:

  • Physical activity is crucial for child health.
  • Schools are key settings for promoting physical activity.
  • Environmental factors significantly influence children's activity levels.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of a playground redesign on student physical activity.
  • To assess the sustainability of increased physical activity post-redesign.
  • To demonstrate the feasibility of low-cost evaluation methods for school interventions.

Main Methods:

  • Conducted direct observations of student physical activity during recess.
  • Utilized the System for Observing Play and Leisure Activity in Youth (SOPLAY) instrument.
  • Collected data before, and 6 months and 1 year after playground redesign.

Main Results:

  • Moderate to vigorous physical activity increased by 23.3% at 6 months and 17.2% at 1 year.
  • Vigorous physical activity increased by 26.2% at 6 months and 33.1% at 1 year.
  • Statistically significant increases in physical activity were observed (p<0.01).

Conclusions:

  • Environmental interventions, including playground equipment, effectively increase student physical activity.
  • These increases in physical activity can be sustained over time.
  • Schools and community groups can use simple methods to evaluate such health initiatives.
