A patient presented with unresponsiveness and seizures, found to have a frontal lobe abscess and subdural empyema secondary to complicated frontal sinusitis. Prompt surgical drainage and treatment are crucial for patients with neurological deficits and sinus disease.
Area of Science:
- Neurology
- Neurosurgery
- Infectious Disease
Background:
- Complicated frontal sinusitis can lead to severe intracranial complications.
- Prompt recognition and intervention are critical for favorable outcomes.
Observation:
- A 49-year-old male presented with unresponsiveness and seizures.
- Imaging revealed bilateral paranasal sinus disease, a right frontal abscess, and subdural empyema.
Findings:
- Neurosurgical intervention included craniotomy and drainage of purulent fluid.
- The patient was discharged for acute rehabilitation post-operatively.
Implications:
- Clinicians must consider complicated frontal sinusitis in undifferentiated patients with neurological deficits and sinus symptoms.
- Early diagnosis and management of sinusitis can prevent devastating neurological sequelae.
