Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology and Surgical Innovation

Background:

  • Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique.
  • Richter's hernia is a rare complication involving the herniation of the antimesenteric border of the small bowel through a defect.

Observation:

  • A case of Richter's hernia occurred on the 5th postoperative day following laparoscopy.
  • Initial symptoms mimicked a postoperative hematoma, necessitating surgical exploration due to increasing intensity.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention revealed a Richter's hernia involving a loop of small bowel.
  • A conservative surgical approach was successfully performed on the affected bowel segment.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare but serious complication of laparoscopic surgery.
