Background:

Conscience is a critical element in nursing for providing optimal patient care.
Identifying factors that influence conscience is essential for advancing conscience-based care in nursing.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore factors affecting conscience in nursing practice through nurses' lived experiences.
To understand the nuances of conscience within the nursing profession.

Main Methods:

Qualitative content analysis of data from 14 nurses in Iranian educational hospitals.
Purposive sampling and inductive/conventional data analysis were employed.
Ethical considerations including voluntary participation, anonymity, and confidentiality were strictly adhered to.

Main Results:

Two primary themes emerged: 'environment of professional performance' and 'personal factors'.
These themes highlight key areas influencing nurses' ability to practice according to their conscience.

Conclusions:

Professional environment and personal factors are crucial for enhancing conscience in nursing practice.
Emphasis on religious beliefs, professional commitment, and communication skills in education is recommended.
Effective management systems are vital for supporting nurses in delivering moral care.
