Summary

Surgery for ascending aorta aneurysms over 70 mm is safe. Patients experienced no increased complications or mortality, demonstrating the safety of ascending aorta replacement for large aneurysms.

  • Aortic rupture risk exceeds 30% for diameters >60 mm.
  • Patients with aneurysms >70 mm are still encountered in practice.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate surgical outcomes in patients with ascending aorta diameter >70 mm.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of ascending aorta replacement for significantly enlarged aneurysms.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective observational study of 31 patients operated on between 2012-2017.
  • Univariate logistic regression and survival analysis.
  • Kaplan-Meier survival curves were constructed.

Main Results:

  • Mean aneurysm diameter was 82.3 ± 18.6 mm (range 70-160 mm).
  • In-hospital mortality was 3.2%, with 1-year survival at 83.9%.
  • Aneurysm diameter was not associated with increased early or late mortality.

Conclusions:

  • Ascending aorta replacement is safe for aneurysms >70 mm.
  • No significant increase in postoperative complications or mortality was observed.
  • Surgical intervention for large ascending aorta aneurysms yields favorable outcomes.
