Summary

Retinoid medications like isotretinoin and acitretin may be associated with spinal bony spur formation. However, underlying conditions in patients, not solely the retinoid therapy, might contribute to these skeletal changes.

  • To investigate the skeletal effects of retinoids on the spine in patients treated with isotretinoin and acitretin.

  • Retrospective review of spinal radiographs from two patient groups: 96 patients treated with isotretinoin and 241 patients with psoriasis treated with acitretin.
