Endoscopic laser polypectomy and bipolar electroexcision for colon polyps show similar relapse rates. However, laser removal of broad-based polyps leads to faster wound healing.

  • 134 patients with colon disease underwent evaluation; 86 diagnosed with polyps.
  • 45 patients had endoscopic laser polypectomy; 41 had bipolar electroexcision.
  • Follow-up colonoscopies at 6 months assessed disease relapse and wound healing.

Main Results:

  • Relapses occurred with both laser and electroexcision methods, influenced by polyp morphology.
  • No significant difference in relapse rates was observed between the two polypectomy techniques.
  • Laser polypectomy demonstrated significantly faster wound healing for broad-based polyps (p≤0.05).

  • Polypectomy via fibrocolonoscopy is an effective ambulatory treatment for benign colorectal tumors.
  • Laser coagulation is advantageous for broad-based polyps due to superior wound healing compared to bipolar electroexcision.
