Routes of Persuasion02:20

Routes of Persuasion

68.8K
Persuasion is the process of changing our attitude toward something based on some kind of communication. Much of the persuasion we experience comes from outside forces. How do people convince others to change their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors? What communications do you receive that attempt to persuade you to change your attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors?

Design of Columns under a Centric Load01:17

Design of Columns under a Centric Load

575
The design of columns under centric load is a fundamental aspect of structural engineering and is critical for ensuring the stability and integrity of structures. Euler's and Secant's formulas are central to understanding and calculating the critical load and deformation behaviors of columns, providing a basis for safe and effective structural design.
Euler's formula is applicable under the assumption that the column is a perfect, straight, homogenous prism, and it is operating...

Protein Networks02:26

Protein Networks

4.6K
An organism can have thousands of different proteins, and these proteins must cooperate to ensure the health of an organism. Proteins bind to other proteins and form complexes to carry out their functions. Many proteins interact with multiple other proteins creating a complex network of protein interactions.
These interactions can be represented through maps depicting protein-protein interaction networks, represented as nodes and edges. Nodes are circles that are representative of a protein,...

What is Energy?04:10

What is Energy?

59.4K
The universe is composed of matter in different forms, and all forms of matter contain energy.  The different forms of energy on Earth originate from the Sun — the ultimate energy source. Plants capture light energy from the Sun, and, via the process of photosynthesis, convert it into chemical energy. This stored energy from plants can be harnessed in many ways. For example, eating plant products as food provides energy for our body to function, and burning wood or coal (fossilized...

Free Energy01:21

Free Energy

52.2K
Free energy—abbreviated as G for the scientist Gibbs who discovered it—is a measurement of useful energy that can be extracted from a reaction to do work. It is the energy in a chemical reaction that is available after entropy is accounted for. Reactions that take in energy are considered endergonic and reactions that release energy are exergonic. Plants carry out endergonic reactions by taking in sunlight and carbon dioxide to produce glucose and oxygen. Animals, in turn, break...

Network Covalent Solids02:18

Network Covalent Solids

16.2K
Network covalent solids contain a three-dimensional network of covalently bonded atoms as found in the crystal structures of nonmetals like diamond, graphite, silicon, and some covalent compounds, such as silicon dioxide (sand) and silicon carbide (carborundum, the abrasive on sandpaper). Many minerals have networks of covalent bonds.
To break or to melt a covalent network solid, covalent bonds must be broken. Because covalent bonds are relatively strong, covalent network solids are typically...

Area of Science:

  • Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Network Engineering

Background:

  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) rely on clustering to extend operational lifetime.
  • Current clustering methods suffer from high energy dissipation due to control message overhead, limiting network longevity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose an energy-centric, cluster-based routing mechanism for WSNs.
  • To reduce energy consumption and enhance network lifetime by optimizing cluster head election and communication.

Main Methods:

  • Cluster heads are elected based on node rank, defined by residual energy and average distance to member nodes.
  • Cluster heads perform data aggregation and forwarding, and manage subsequent elections by piggybacking rank information with local data.
  • This approach minimizes control messages for cluster head election and formation.

Main Results:

  • The proposed protocol demonstrates reduced energy consumption among WSN nodes.
  • Simulation results indicate a significant improvement in overall network lifetime compared to conventional methods.

Conclusions:

  • The energy-centric cluster-based routing mechanism effectively conserves energy in WSNs.
  • Optimized cluster head selection and reduced control overhead lead to a prolonged network operational lifespan.
