Certain human leukocyte antigen (HLA) gene variations are linked to autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The HLA-DRB1*11-DQB1*07 haplotype is more common in individuals with ASD, while HLA-DRB1*17-DQB1*02 may offer protection.
