Background:

Problem gambling and problem drinking frequently co-occur.
Internet interventions offer accessible treatment options for behavioral addictions.
Understanding combined treatment efficacy is crucial for clinical practice.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the effectiveness of a combined Internet intervention for problem gambling and problem drinking.
To compare a combined intervention (Gambling + Alcohol) against a gambling-only intervention.
To assess outcomes in participants with gambling problems, with or without co-occurring problem drinking.

Main Methods:

Recruitment of 280 participants with problem gambling via online advertisements.
Randomization into two groups: Gambling-only (G-only) and Gambling + Alcohol (G+A) Internet interventions.
6-month follow-up to assess changes in gambling and drinking outcomes.

Main Results:

The study predicts that participants receiving the G+A intervention will show greater reduction in gambling outcomes compared to the G-only group.
This is particularly expected for problem gamblers with co-occurring problem drinking.

Conclusions:

This trial will contribute valuable data on the efficacy of integrated Internet interventions for co-occurring addictions.
Findings will inform the development of more effective, accessible treatments for individuals with combined gambling and alcohol use disorders.
