    Background:

    • Plasma membrane glycoproteins play crucial roles in cellular functions.
    • Understanding the structure of these glycoproteins is essential for comprehending cell surface interactions.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify and characterize the major surface glycoproteins of rabbit corneal endothelial cells.
    • To investigate the saccharide moieties of these identified glycoproteins.

    Main Methods:

    • Radiolabeling of sialic acid residues using sodium periodate and sodium borotritide.
    • Separation of surface glycoproteins by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) in sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS).

    • Eight major surface glycoproteins (GP 1-8) were identified with molecular weights ranging from 44K to 220K.

    • This information can contribute to understanding corneal endothelial cell function and potential therapeutic targets.
