Main Results:

  • Moderate-severe HV (angle ≥30°) and painful HV impaired grip strength and walking speed, independent of KOA.
  • Hallux plantar pressure decreased with increasing HV angle and was lower in painful HV.
  • Reduced physical function was observed in individuals with moderate-severe HV and pain.

Conclusions:

  • Moderate-severe hallux valgus deformity and pain negatively impact physical function, irrespective of knee osteoarthritis.
  • Treatments aimed at managing HV pain and deformity, such as surgery, could potentially enhance physical function in affected patients.
