Summary

Capsaicinoids (CAPs) combined with regular exercise significantly improved antioxidant status and lipid metabolism in rats. This combination enhanced key gene products involved in these metabolic functions, suggesting a synergistic effect.

  • This group exhibited higher levels of Nrf2 and HO-1, and lower levels of NF-κB and IL-10 in muscle tissue.
  • Lipid metabolism-related genes (SREBP-1c, LXR, ACLY, FAS) were downregulated, while PPAR-γ was upregulated in the regular exercise + CAPs group.

Conclusions:

  • Capsaicinoids, when combined with regular exercise, demonstrate a potent effect in enhancing lipid metabolism and antioxidant capacity in rats.
  • The synergistic action appears to be mediated through the regulation of key genes in lipid and antioxidant pathways, including SREBP-1c, PPAR-γ, and Nrf2.
