Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • A hospital-based case-control study was conducted in Serbia with 374 participants (187 myocardial infarction patients and 187 controls).

  • Binge drinking in the past 12 months was significantly more prevalent in myocardial infarction cases (25.1%) than in controls (12.8%).

  • The findings highlight binge drinking as a significant public health concern, especially in populations with high alcohol consumption like Serbia.
  • Public health strategies should consider the impact of binge drinking on myocardial infarction incidence.
