This case report details the first instance of isolated metastasis to the anterior clinoid process (ACP). This finding highlights the importance of considering metastasis in the differential diagnosis of ACP lesions.
Area of Science:
- Neuro-oncology
- Skull Base Surgery
- Radiology
Background:
- A 58-year-old male with a history of male breast and prostate cancer presented with neurological symptoms.
- Imaging revealed an anterior clinoid process (ACP) mass mimicking meningioma.
Observation:
- The patient experienced headaches and right-sided visual disturbances, including double vision.
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed an enhancing extra-axial mass on the ACP.
Findings:
- The mass was confirmed as an isolated metastasis, the first reported on the ACP.
- Surgical resection via extradural clinoidectomy improved the patient's visual symptoms.
Implications:
- Metastasis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of anterior clinoid process lesions.
- Extradural clinoidectomy is a safe and effective treatment for such tumors.

Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition
The epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition or EMT is a developmental process commonly observed in wound healing, embryogenesis, and cancer metastasis. EMT is induced by transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) or receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) ligands, which further...
