[Psammona body type meningioma in temporal bone:a case report]

• An 8-year-old patient presented with an external auditory canal tumor without typical otologic symptoms.
• CT imaging revealed lesions occupying the external auditory canal and mastoid.
• Pathological examination identified a spindle cell tumor with calcification.

Findings:

• Immunohistochemical analysis revealed positivity for Vimentin (Vim), Epithelial Membrane Antigen (EMA), and CD34.
• The tumor showed low proliferative activity (Ki-67: 3%-5%) and negative markers for Cytokeratin (CK) and S-100 protein.
• The final pathological diagnosis was psammoma body type meningioma.

Implications:

• This case highlights the potential for meningiomas to occur in extraneural locations like the external auditory canal.
• Accurate histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation is crucial for diagnosing rare tumors in pediatric patients.
