Mindfulness training for graduate nursing students did not significantly reduce stress or improve quality of life. However, the intervention did lead to a statistically significant increase in overall mindfulness among participants.
Area of Science:
- Nursing Education
- Psychological Interventions
- Student Well-being
Background:
- Graduate nursing programs are demanding, often leading to high stress levels.
- Student well-being is crucial for academic success and future professional practice.
- Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is a potential intervention to mitigate stress.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of an MBSR intervention for graduate nursing students.
- To assess the impact of mindfulness training on stress, quality of life, and mindfulness levels.
Main Methods:
- A cohort of 44 graduate nursing students participated in the study.
- Participants engaged in 20 weekly 1.5-hour sessions of mindfulness training.
- Pre- and post-intervention assessments were likely used to measure outcomes.
Main Results:
- No statistically significant changes were observed in participants' stress levels.
- No statistically significant changes were observed in participants' quality of life.
- A statistically significant increase in overall mindfulness was reported (P < .05).
Conclusions:
- MBSR interventions may enhance mindfulness in graduate nursing students.
- The current MBSR program did not demonstrate significant effects on stress or quality of life for this population.
- Further research is needed to optimize MBSR for nursing students' stress and well-being.

Random Variables
Uppercase letters such as X or Y denote a random variable. Lowercase letters like x or y denote the value of a random variable. If X is a random variable, then X is written in words, and x is given as a number.
