Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • Chiari malformations (CM) involve hindbrain overcrowding.
  • Chiari headache (CH) is a disabling condition impacting multiple life domains.
  • Accurate diagnosis of CH is crucial for effective management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize Chiari headache (CH).
  • To describe the diagnosis of CH.
  • To outline treatment options for CH.

Main Methods:

  • Review of recent research on CM and CH.
  • Analysis of diagnostic criteria for CH.
  • Evaluation of imaging findings in CH.
  • Assessment of current treatment strategies for CH.

Main Results:

  • Diagnostic criteria for CH have been solidified.
  • Imaging studies enhance understanding of CM morphology and CH pathophysiology.
  • Improved CH identification leads to better treatment selection.
  • Current understanding of CH pathophysiology and imaging is advancing.

Conclusions:

  • Enhanced diagnostic criteria and imaging improve CH identification.
  • Further research is needed to develop novel treatments for CH.
  • Understanding CM and CH is critical for patient care.
