    Area of Science:

    • Phytochemistry
    • Natural Product Chemistry
    • Pharmacognosy

    Background:

    • Dysosma versipellis (Hance) M. Cheng is a plant species with potential medicinal properties.
    • Understanding its chemical composition is crucial for exploring its pharmacological activities.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To isolate and elucidate the chemical constituents present in the root of Dysosma versipellis.
    • To identify novel compounds and those reported for the first time in this plant.

    Main Methods:

    • Extraction of Dysosma versipellis root using 95% ethanol.
    • Isolation of compounds using silica gel, lichroprep RP-C(18), and pharmadex LH-20 column chromatography.
    • Structural elucidation through infrared (IR), mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and 2D-NMR spectroscopic analyses.

    Main Results:

    • Ten compounds were successfully isolated and identified from the ethanol extract.
    • The identified compounds include dysoverine D (1), dysoverine F (2), dysoverine A (3), podoverine A (4), α-peltatin (5), rutin (6), kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (8), kaempferol (9), and quercetin (10).
    • Compound 2 (dysoverine F) is a new chemical entity, and compounds 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 were reported from Dysosma versipellis for the first time.

    Conclusions:

    • The study successfully identified ten chemical constituents from Dysosma versipellis root.
    • The discovery of a new compound and the first-time isolation of several others contribute significantly to the phytochemical knowledge of this plant species.
