Purpose of the Study:

To investigate if cognitive appraisals mediate the link between personality traits and emotional responses.
To understand the mechanisms behind affiliative extraversion's influence on affect.

Main Methods:

Online experiment with 192 participants.
Involved affiliative and appetitive imagery tasks.
Measured affect and cognitive appraisals of imagined events.

Main Results:

Affiliative extraversion predicted warmth-affection, mediated by appraisals of pleasantness and compatibility.
Affiliative extraversion predicted positive activation, mediated by appraisals of importance.
No significant associations found for agentic extraversion or other affect types.

Conclusions:

Cognitive appraisals appear to be a key mechanism linking affiliative extraversion to affective reactivity.
Further research is needed to confirm these findings on personality-emotion relationships.
