Patients with X-linked thrombocytopenia (XLT) and Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) may develop IgA nephropathy (IgAN). This case study shows successful treatment of XLT with IgAN using tonsillectomy and steroid pulse therapy.
Area of Science:
- Nephrology
- Immunology
- Pediatrics
Background:
- Renal involvement is an occasional complication of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) and X-linked thrombocytopenia (XLT).
- Reduced galactosylation of serum IgA is linked to IgA nephropathy (IgAN), suggesting a potential susceptibility in XLT/WAS patients.
- Increased attention is needed for IgAN in patients with XLT/WAS due to this potential association.
